Application technology of magnesium - containing cored wire


With the implementation of AH36,16MnR and other new steel standards, and the sulfur content in the steel provisions are more strict, many small and medium-sized converter steelmaking (furnace capacity below 50T), due to the constraints of various reasons, there is no hot metal pretreatment process before the furnace, resulting in converter production of sulfur content is difficult to control, can not meet the new standard requirements. The desulfurization process of molten iron by spraying magnesium powder is the new process with the highest efficiency and the least environmental pollution at present. The technique of desulphurization by feeding magnesium - containing cored wire into ladle has achieved good metallurgical effect.


  1. Magnesium content in cored wire. The molten steel was desulfurized with magnesium powder. It is verified that magnesium is a good desulfurizer, and the maximum desulfurization rate is up to 64.5%. The desulfurization rate decreased with the increase of magnesium unit consumption. The reason is that with the increase of the amount of magnesium powder, the molten steel appeared a large splash, and the yield of magnesium decreased significantly.

  2. . Desulfurization and deoxygenation. According to the requirement of desulfurization in feeding line, the control of oxygen content in steel is the prerequisite for effective desulfurization of molten steel with magnesium cored wire.

  3. Feeding depth. In order to improve the utilization rate of the alloy and protect the bottom of the package, the feeding depth should be controlled appropriately.

  4. Feeding speed of different specification cored wire. It is very important to determine the suitable parameters of feeding velocity. When the wire feeding speed is high, the reaction of the core wire feeding into the depth of the ladle is too intense, resulting in molten steel spilling. When the speed is low, the cored wire is easy to burn on the surface of molten steel, which will affect the metallurgical effect.
