What's the difference between ferrosilicon and ferrosilicon particles?
What is ferrosilicon?
Ferro-silicon is an ferroalloy composed of iron and silicon. Ferro-silicon is made of coke, steel chips, quartz (or silica) as raw materials and smelted in an electric furnace.
Uses of ferrosilicon:
1. Ferrosilicon is an essential deoxidizer in steelmaking industry. In steelmaking, ferrosilicon is used for precipitation deoxidization and diffusion deoxidization. Brick iron is also used as alloy agent in steelmaking.
2. Used as inoculant and spheroidizing agent in cast iron industry. In the production of ductile iron, 75 ferrosilicon is an important inoculant (helping to precipitate out graphite) and spheroidizing agent.
3. Used as reducing agent in ferroalloy production. Not only the chemical affinity between silicon and oxygen is great, but also the high silicon iron has low carbon content. Therefore, high silicon ferrosilicon (or silicon alloy) is a kind of reducing agent commonly used in the production of low carbon ferroalloy in ferroalloy industry.
What are ferrosilicon grains?
The ferrosilicon is broken into a certain proportion of small pieces and filtered through a certain mesh of screen leakage to form ferrosilicon particles. In simple terms, ferrosilicon particles are small particles screened out by the natural and standard ferrosilicon blocks broken according to various grain sizes. Currently, they are widely used as inoculant in foundries in the market.

Advantages of ferrosilicon:
Ferro-silicon particles can be used not only in the steel industry but also in the cast iron industry as metallurgical materials. This is mainly because ferro-silicon particles can be used by cast iron manufacturers to replace inoculants and spheroidizing agents. In the cast iron industry, the price of ferro-silicon particles is much lower than that of steel, and it is easier to be melted, so it is an ferroalloy product with ductile casting ability.
