The following six factors should be considered in the selection of appropriate spheroidizing agent: spheroidizing treatment temperature, treatment package size, spheroidizing treatment process, treatment weight, silicon content, raw iron sulfur content;


First, spheroidizing treatment temperature;


If the spheroidization treatment temperature >1480℃, the spheroidization reaction will be more intense, resulting in a lower absorption rate of magnesium. In order to make the spheroidizing reaction stable, the spheroidizing agent with relatively high calcium content can be selected.


If the spheroidizing temperature is less than 1480 ° C, a spheroidizer with a relatively low calcium content can be used.

Two, processing package size;


If the height to diameter ratio of the treatment package is 1:1, the absorption rate of magnesium will be reduced due to the loss of magnesium vapor, so it is recommended to use a spheroidizer with a higher calcium content.


If the ratio of height to diameter of the treated package is 2:1, the spheroidization reaction will be relatively stable, the magnesium vapor will diffuse into the molten iron, and the absorption rate of magnesium will be improved.

Three, spheroidizing treatment process.


If the capping process is not used, the fumes from the spheroidization reaction will enter the atmosphere and produce a dazzling white light. In order to make the spheroidizing reaction stable, low magnesium and high calcium spheroidizing agents can be used. If the cover method is used, the molten iron will not splash, and the smoke generated is less, the spheroidizer with high magnesium and low calcium can be used to reduce the amount of addition and reduce the cost of spheroidization.




Four, handle weight


If the weight of molten iron is less than 500kg, then smaller particle size of the spheroidizer can be used, and the particle size of the spheroidizer below 12mm is recommended.


If the weight of molten iron in 500~1000kg, can use larger particle size of the spheroidizer, such as particle size of 3~25mm of the spheroidizer;


If the weight of molten iron is greater than 1000kg, 4~32mm of spheroidizer can be used.

Five, silicon content


If the production rate of casting products is low or the reject rate is high, it is necessary to smelt by returning more charge and scrap steel, and the silicon content of molten iron in the casting has strict requirements. Under the premise that inoculation quantity cannot be further reduced, low silicon spheroidizer can be used for treatment, which can increase the return charge by 8%~15%, and reduce the production cost of the foundry.




Sulphur content of original liquid iron. If the sulfur content of the original liquid iron is high, if the desulfurization treatment is not carried out, the spheroidizer with high magnesium and high rare earth is needed, and the amount of addition will be high.


If the sulfur content of the original liquid iron is low, the spheroidizer with low magnesium and low rare earth can be used, and the amount of addition will be low. The cost of the spheroidizer with low magnesium and low rare earth will also be cheaper.
