The role of silica fume in various concretes

1. Low-heat concrete

Using silica fume instead of cement, the strength of the concrete does not change but the temperature of the concrete changes. This is the most effective way to obtain low-heat concrete while maintaining the same early strength.

2. Waterproof concrete

Due to the low permeability, silica fume is an indispensable waterproof material for some underground structures in some relatively humid places, such as underground parking lots.

3. Corrosion resistant concrete

Silica fume is suitable for some structures exposed to seawater and deicing salt, such as harbors, wharves, groundwater, soil and air on shore buildings where there are chlorides.

4. High-strength concrete

Silica fume provides developers with huge economic benefits, such as reducing the thickness of the columns and walls of high-rise buildings and improving the structural layout. During the construction process, the micro-silica fume concrete is also easy to pump.

5. Self-compacting concrete

Due to its very high surface area, silica fume concrete is viscous and prevents bleeding and separation. This is extremely important for self-compacting concrete, which is fluid and easy to separate.

Whether it is dry or wet production, the silica fume used in shotcrete can reduce rebound, increase thickness, and increase the erosion resistance of offshore structures. When used with fiber, it can eliminate mesh and reduce cracks.
