Silicomanganese alloy production process
Silicomanganese alloy is an alloy composed of manganese, silicon, iron and a small amount of carbon and other elements. It is a kind of iron alloy with wide application and high yield. Manganese-silicon alloy is a compound deoxidizer commonly used in steelmaking, and it is also a reducing agent for producing medium and low carbon fermanganese and metal manganese by electrosi-thermal method. Manganese and silicon are the main alloying elements used in carbon steel. Manganese is one of the main deoxidizer in steelmaking process. Almost all kinds of steel need manganese to deoxidize. Because the oxygen product produced by manganese deoxidization has a low melting point and is easy to float up; Manganese can also increase the deoxidation effect of strong deoxidizer such as silicon and aluminum. All industrial steel requires the addition of a small amount of manganese as a desulfurizer to enable the steel to be hot-rolled, forged and other processes without breaking. Manganese is also a more important alloying element in the steel, and more than 15% of manganese is added to the alloy steel to increase the structural strength of the steel. Silicon is the most important alloying element next to manganese in pig iron and carbon steel.
In steel production, silicon is mainly used as a deoxidizer for molten metals or as an alloy additive to increase the strength and improve the properties of steel. Silicon is also an effective stone grinding medium, which can change the carbon in cast iron into free stone grinding carbon. Silicon in standard grey and ductile iron is up to 4%. Large amounts of manganese and silicon are added to the molten steel in the form of ferroalloys: ferromanganese, silicomanganese, and ferrosilicon.
Silicomanganese alloy is produced by simultaneously reducing manganese ore (including manganese-rich slag) and manganese oxide and silicon dioxide in silica in the ore furnace with carbon. The production of manganese-silicon alloy is carried out in the furnace, using carbonaceous reducing agent, manganese ore, manganese-rich slag, sinter manganese ore, roasted manganese ore and silica as raw materials, lime, dolomite, fluorite and other flux in the furnace continuous production.
