Introduction and applications of calcium silicon alloy
Calcium silicon alloy is a composite alloy composed of elemental silicon, calcium and iron, which is a more ideal compound deoxidizer and desulfurizer. It is widely used in the production of high quality steel, low carbon steel, stainless steel and other steel grades and special alloys such as nickel-based alloys and titanium-based alloys; it is also suitable for use as a warming agent in the converter steel workshop; it can also be used as a breeder for cast iron and an additive in the production of ductile iron.
Uses of calcium silicon alloy
As calcium has a strong affinity with oxygen, sulphur, hydrogen, nitrogen and carbon in the steel, calcium silicon alloy are mainly used for deoxidising, degassing and fixing sulphur in the steel. The addition of calcium silicon to the steel produces a strong exothermic effect. The calcium becomes calcium vapour in the steel, which has an agitating effect on the steel and is beneficial to the floating of non-metallic inclusions. After deoxidation, calcium silicon alloy produce non-metallic inclusions that are large and easy to float, while also changing the shape and nature of non-metallic inclusions. Therefore, calcium silicon alloy is used to produce clean steel, excellent quality steel with low oxygen and sulphur content, as well as special performance steel with particularly low oxygen and sulphur content. The addition of calcium silicon alloy can eliminate the use of aluminium as a final deoxidizer of steel in the ladle water mouth of the tumour, and continuous casting|Iron refining of the intermediate tank water mouth blockage and other problems. In steel refining technology outside the furnace, the use of calcium silica powder or core line for deoxidation and desulphurisation, so that the content of oxygen and sulphur in steel to very low; also control the form of sulphide in steel, while improving the utilization of calcium. In cast iron production, in addition to the role of deoxidation and purification, calcium silicon alloy also plays a pregnant role, helping to form fine grains or spherical graphite; so that the distribution of graphite in grey cast iron is uniform, reducing the tendency of white mouth; and can increase silicon, desulfurization, improve the quality of cast iron.
