Ferrochrome is divided into high carbon ferrochrome (including charge grade ferrochrome), medium carbon ferrochrome, low carbon ferrochrome, micro carbon ferrochrome and so on. The smelting process of ferrochrome with different carbon content is different. Next, the ferrochrome supplier will explain to you:

1, low carbon ferrochrome: there are two main smelting methods of low carbon ferrochrome: high carbon ferrochrome refining method and electric silicon thermal method. High carbon ferrochrome refining method is divided into refining high carbon ferrochrome with chromium ore and refining high carbon ferrochrome with oxygen. With chromium ore concentrate high carbon ferrochrome, refining slag has a large viscosity and high melting point, smelting process temperature should be high. The traditional production method is still electric silicon thermal method. The electrosilicon thermal method is to reduce the oxide of chromium and iron with silicon in the silicon chromium alloy under the condition of alkaline slag in the electric furnace, so as to produce medium and low carbon ferrochromium.

2, micro-carbon ferrochrome: micro-carbon ferrochrome is mainly used in the production of stainless steel, acid-resistant steel and heat-resistant steel. Micro-carbon ferrochrome smelting methods are electric silicon thermal method and thermal mixing method. The micro-carbon ferrochrome smelting by electro-silicon thermal method is to add chromium ore, silicon chromium alloy and lime into the electric arc furnace. The micro-carbon ferrochrome smelting by electro-silicon thermal method mainly relies on electric heating to melt the charge and reduce the Cr2O3 in the chromium ore in the silicon chromium alloy. The micro-carbon ferrochrome smelting process is to make the pre-melted chromium ore - lime melt and silicon chromium alloy in the molten iron bag outside the furnace for hot mixing operation, so as to produce micro-carbon ferrochrome.

3, high carbon ferrochrome: high carbon ferrochrome smelting methods are blast furnace method, electric furnace method, plasma furnace method, etc. Only special pig iron containing about 30% chromium can be made by blast furnace. As of 2012, high-carbon ferrochrome with high chromium content is mostly smelted in the ore furnace by the flux method.
