Manganese is one of the most important alloying elements in iron and steel materials. Manganese can change the strength, hardness, toughness, wear resistance and heat resistance of iron and steel materials. Manganese in iron and steel is obtained mainly by adding ferromanganese alloy to its melt.


Ferromanganese can be divided into high carbon, medium carbon and low carbon ferromanganese due to the different carbon content. Among them, high carbon ferromanganese is restricted strictly because of its high carbon content, adding steel material will increase the carbon content of steel significantly. Low carbon ferromanganese does not have the same problem as high carbon ferromanganese. Therefore, low carbon ferromanganese is more used and widely used than high carbon ferromanganese. It is an important raw material for the production of stainless steel, heat-resistant cast steel, heat-resistant cast iron, wear-resistant steel and structural steel. In the past, the production of low carbon ferromanganese was mainly converted to low carbon ferromanganese by oxygen decarbonization into liquid high carbon ferromanganese molten solution, and then the reduction of peroxide molten solution with silicomanganese alloy was used to improve the yield of manganese. High carbon ferromanganese liquid oxidation decarbonization process is a complicated process with high cost and serious environmental pollution.
