Metallic silicon is widely used in refractory and powder metallurgy industries. It is an excellent antioxidant. Adding metallic silicon into refractory can first react with oxygen to form a new mineral phase, close pores, improve density and prevent the penetration of slag iron, so as to improve the high temperature resistance, wear resistance and oxidation resistance of products. Therefore, it is widely used in refractory materials such as steel-making furnace, kiln and kiln furniture. In metallurgical casting industry, metallic silicon is used as non-ferrous alloy additive and silicon steel alloy agent, so as to improve the hardenability of steel. Metallic silicon can also be used as reducing agent for some metals and new ceramic alloys.
