In recent years, silicon metal enterprises have been facing new challenges and choices. 1957 to date, after more than 50 years of development, more than 600 silicon metal enterprises have been built and put into operation in China, and more than 200 enterprises are still in production, with a production capacity of more than 2 million t/a and an actual annual output of more than 1 million t.
The outstanding features of China's silicon metal production compared to foreign countries are: smaller capacity of silicon metal furnaces, more units, and more and more scattered production enterprises. The advantages of this situation in China's silicon metal production are: easy to raise funds, short and fast construction cycle, rapid access to investment benefits, easy to stop and start furnaces, better use of scattered surplus power and seasonal hydropower, and the ability to provide employment opportunities for more people and to take advantage of human resources. Problems are: furnace capacity is small, poor thermal stability, not easy to obtain good technical and economic indicators, some advanced technology and operational management experience is difficult to promote popular; difficult to form a unified will and action between enterprises, enterprises cover a large area, the scale is not economic.
