Properties and uses of silicon calcium

Silicon calcium alloy is a binary alloy composed of silicon and calcium, belonging to the category of ferroalloys. Its main components are silicon and calcium, and it also contains different amounts of impurities such as iron, aluminum, carbon, sulfur, and phosphorus. The iron and steel industry is used as calcium additives, deoxidizers, desulfurizers and denaturants of non-metallic inclusions. Used as an inoculant and denaturant in the cast iron industry.

Silicon calcium alloys are mainly used in steelmaking and cast iron production.

Calcium and silicon have a great affinity with oxygen, and the deoxidized products are easy to float up and are easily discharged. Therefore, the molten steel deoxidized with silicon calcium alloy is relatively pure. When making high-quality steel and special alloys, silicon-calcium alloys are commonly used as deoxidizers. .

The calcium and sulfur in the silicon calcium alloy form a stable compound CaS, and CaS is insoluble in molten steel. Therefore, when the silicon-calcium alloy is deoxidized, it also has a desulfurization effect.

In the production of cast iron, calcium silicon can improve the properties of cast iron more effectively than ferrosilicon. Silicon-calcium alloy is not only an effective inoculant to promote the formation of spherical graphite, but also has the effects of deoxidation, desulfurization, denitrification and silicon increase.

Calcium and silicon have a strong affinity with oxygen. Especially calcium, not only has a strong affinity with oxygen, but also has a strong affinity with sulfur and nitrogen. Therefore, silicon calcium alloy is an ideal composite deoxidizer and desulfurizer. Silicon alloys not only have strong deoxidizing ability, and the deoxidized products are easy to float and discharge, but also can improve the performance of steel, and improve the plasticity, impact toughness and fluidity of steel. Silicon calcium alloy can replace aluminum for final deoxidation. It is applied to high quality steel. Special steel and special alloy are in production. For example, steel grades such as rail steel, low carbon steel, stainless steel and special alloys such as nickel-based alloys and titanium-based alloys can all use silicon calcium alloys as deoxidizers. Silicon calcium alloy is also suitable as a warming agent for converter steelmaking workshops, and silicon calcium alloy can also be used as an inoculant for cast iron and an additive in the production of ductile iron.
