Silicon Slag For Industrial Engineering

Silicon slag is a kind of scum that floats on the furnace during the process of smelting silicon. It can be used to raise the temperature of liquid steel in the process of steelmaking. It also acts as a deoxidizing agent. In addition, silicon metal slag can be used in the manufacture of silica sol.

* It is a good alternative to ferrosilicon in steel production and has the advantage of reducing production costs.

* Silica slag powder can be made into silica briquette, which has a wide market at home and abroad.

* It is used as a deoxidizer in steelmaking.

(1) Utilization of residual silicon

The silicon content determines value: Industrial silicon slag contains up to 45% Si (better than low-grade ferrosilicon), which can replace some silicon-based alloys for steelmaking deoxidation/alloying, reducing costs by 30-50%.

(2) Functional components

SiO ₂ - CaO Al ₂ O ∝ system:

Low melting point silicate slag (1300-1400 ℃) is formed during steelmaking, which adsorbs inclusions in the steel;

As an inoculant carrier in casting, it promotes graphite nucleation.

(3) Environmental Protection and Economy

Solid waste resource utilization: The global annual production of metallurgical silicon slag exceeds 10 million tons, and efficient utilization reduces storage pollution;

Cost reduction and efficiency improvement: The purchase price of silicon iron slag is about $200-400/ton, which is only one-third to one sixth of that of silicon iron ($1200/ton).
