Brief introduction:
Ferrochrome is an important alloy additive for steelmaking, which is composed of chromium and iron. Chromite for smelting ferrochrome is generally required to contain Cr2O340 ~ 50%, and the ratio of chromium to iron is greater than 2.8. In recent years, a large amount of "charging grade ferrochrome" containing 50% chromium is produced, with ore containing Cr2O3 and low ratio of chromium to iron.
Low carbon ferrochrome is used in the production of low carbon structural steel, chromium steel, alloy structural steel. Chromium steel is often used to manufacture gears, gear shafts, etc. Chromium manganese silicon steel is often used in the manufacture of high pressure fan blade, valve plate, etc.
There are two main smelting methods of low carbon ferrochrome: high carbon ferrochrome refining method and electric silicothermic method.
The traditional production method is still electrical silicothermic method. Under the condition of making basic slag in electric furnace, the silicon in silicon chromium alloy is used to reduce the oxide of medium chromium and iron, so as to produce low carbon ferrochrome.
