Metallic silicon 96 (Si ≥ 96%) is a medium purity industrial silicon mainly used in metallurgy, chemical industry and other fields that require high silicon content but do not require ultra-high purity. Its number usually indicates the minimum content of silicon (such as "96" representing Si ≥ 96%), which is different from higher purity metallic silicon (such as Si ≥ 98%, 99%, etc.).
USE
(1) Aluminum alloy additive
Function: Improve the strength and heat resistance of aluminum (such as car wheels and engine components).
Addition ratio: usually 5%~15%.
Advantages: Si ≥ 96% can meet most aluminum alloy needs, with high cost-effectiveness.
(2) Production of silicon-based alloys
Ferrosilicon (FeSi): Used as a deoxidizer in steelmaking (Si ≥ 96% silicon can reduce production costs).
Calcium Silicon Alloy (CaSi): Used for desulfurization and deoxidation in steel smelting.
(3) Organic silicon chemical raw materials
Further processing: Metal silicon 96 can be chlorinated to produce trichlorosilane (SiHCl ∝), which is used for synthesizing silicone oil, silicone rubber, etc. (impurities such as Ca and Ti need to be controlled).
(4) Solar grade polycrystalline silicon (primary raw material)
Purification: Si96 is purified to solar grade (6N, 99.9999%) by metallurgical or Siemens methods, but with lower efficiency than high-purity silicon (such as Si ≥ 99%).
(5) Other uses
Refractory material: combined with silicon carbide (SiC) to manufacture high-temperature kiln furniture.
Semiconductor auxiliary materials: low-end electronic component packaging.
