Products Description

 

1. Basic information

Definition: Titanium iron is an alloy of titanium (Ti) and iron (Fe), typically containing 30-75% titanium, with the remainder being iron and a small amount of impurities (Al, Si, C, etc.).

Form: Silver gray block or particle (1-50mm), density about 6.0 g/cm ³, melting point 1400-1500 ℃.

Key characteristics: high melting point, strong chemical activity (easy to react with O/N/C), low density (lighter than molten steel, requiring special addition process).

 

USE

 
 

 

(1) Deoxygenation and Purification

Deep deoxidation: Titanium has a stronger affinity for oxygen than iron (generating TiO ₂), reducing oxide inclusions in steel.

Fixed nitrogen/carbon: forms high melting point TiN (melting point 2950 ℃) and TiC (melting point 3140 ℃) to suppress grain boundary embrittlement.

(2) Grain refinement and control

TiN pinning effect:

Inhibit austenite grain growth at high temperatures (especially for welding steel to prevent coarsening of the heat affected zone).

TiC precipitation strengthening:

Enhance strength in microalloyed steel (such as high-strength low-alloy steel HSLA).

(3) Improve mechanical properties

Enhance toughness: Refine grain size to improve low-temperature impact toughness (key below -40 ℃).

Corrosion resistance enhancement: Titanium stabilized oxide film (Cr Ti composite oxide layer), used for stainless steel (such as 409/439 heat-resistant steel).

(4) Prevent intergranular corrosion

Fixed carbon: TiC is preferentially formed in austenitic stainless steel to prevent Cr ₂ ∝ C ₆ precipitation (avoiding corrosion caused by chromium depletion).
