Basic Definition

 

Calcined Petroleum Coke (CPC): A carbon material produced by calcining raw petroleum coke (a by-product of oil refining) at high temperatures (1,200–1,350°C) to remove volatiles, moisture, and impurities.

Recarburizer: An additive used in steelmaking/foundry processes to replenish carbon (C) in molten metal (iron/steel).

CPC Recarburizer: A carbon additive with CPC as the core material (C >98%), essential for casting and specialty steel production.

Metallurgical Mechanisms

 

Rapid Carbon Dissolution:
CPC dissolves 15-30% faster than graphite recarburizers due to high carbon density and low impurities.

Compensates for carbon loss in casting (e.g., 10-15% carbon burnout in cupola furnaces).

Enhances Material Properties:

Increases cast iron strength (HT250 → HT350)

Promotes nodular graphite formation (>90% nodularity)
