Brief introduction
High Carbon Ferrochrome (HC FeCr) is a ferroalloy composed of chromium, iron, and carbon, and is a crucial member of the ferrochrome family. Despite its unfamiliar name, it is an indispensable "unsung hero" in modern industry, particularly in stainless steel production.
Composition and Characteristics:
Main Components: Chromium (Cr) content typically ranges between 60% and 70%, iron (Fe) content is about 20% to 30%, and carbon (C) content is relatively high, generally between 6% and 8%.
Physical Properties: High carbon ferrochrome has a silvery-gray appearance, is hard in texture, has a high melting point, and exhibits excellent wear and corrosion resistance.
Chemical Properties: The chromium content in high carbon ferrochrome provides it with outstanding oxidation and corrosion resistance, enabling it to effectively withstand erosion from acidic, alkaline, and other corrosive media.
Use
Stainless Steel Production: High carbon ferrochrome is the most important chromium additive in stainless steel production, accounting for over 90% of its total usage. Chromium significantly enhances the corrosion resistance, strength, and toughness of stainless steel, making it widely used in construction, automotive, household appliances, medical devices, and other fields.
Other Alloy Steel Production: High carbon ferrochrome is also used in the production of other alloy steels, such as tool steel, mold steel, and bearing steel, to improve their hardness, wear resistance, and corrosion resistance.
Foundry Industry: High carbon ferrochrome can be used in casting wear-resistant components, such as grinding balls and liners, to extend their service life.
